Hugis Dance Project, under the artistic direction of Mr. Gerard Hechanova, tries to explore deeper and strenthen contemporary and jazz as a dance form in Butuan City through learning from national dance workshops, staging dance pieces and providing dance performances. The group advocates contemporary and jazz dances to be appreciated more in their local place, for these forms are usually unrecognized and misunderstood. Along with the advocacy is to help develop interest to the people of Butuan in learning these dance forms, especially the youth. 4th prize in the 2019 NCCA Sayaw Pinoy Contemporary Dance Category and the director's award as the audience choice with a special mention of the jury for being in the top 4 are some of the group's achievements.
