SINING BULAKENYO-SIBUL was created to invigorate the fading art of folk dancing in the Province of Bulacan. SIBUL is composed of committed students from elementary, high school & college levels. Most of them were dancers of the dance drama “Lola Kikay” staged by the Barasoain Kalinangan Foundation Inc. SIBUL’s creation is an affirmation of the government and private sector partnership to support the development of local arts and culture, folk dance being one of the areas strengthened. SIBUL dancers are developed to be the core group of champions for the traditional dance. They are trained to interpret traditional dance and to learn how to blend their movements with the music played for the purpose. Some of SIBUL’s significant activities were SOUTH EAST ASIAN GAMES Opening in SUBIC (2005), Viva VIGAN: Festival of the Arts (2006), Pandan-Pandan Festival in Pangasinan (2006), WOW! Best of the Best Central Luzon in Tarlac City, KAMANYANG: Ani ng Sining, Yaman ng Lahi - Philippine Arts Festival Celebration 2007 with performances in Bulacan, Tarlac City, Laguna, Pangasinan and Pampanga, ASEAN Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (2006), Ship for South East Asian Youth Program – Philippine Program (2005 and 2006), Asia Europe Foundation Intercultural Learning (2007), Philippine Independence Day Celebration (2007) and the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting held at the Philippine International Convention Center (2007), Sayaw Pinoy of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, among others. Since 2004, SIBUL represent the province in Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Sari-saring Sayaw, Sama-samang Galaw, a gathering of the best dance troupes in the Philippines in celebration of the country’s Arts Month. They have mounted the following performances: Bailes De Ayer–2004, Desposorio–2005, 2007 & 2008 and Kasilonawan Festival-2006. SIBUL is also part of CCP Outreach Division’s SOPAS, SINING AT SORBETES, an ‘arts for the people’ project. In recognition of the talents and commitment of these young dancers, SIBUL represented the Region in the national competition dubbed as “Best of the Best Street Dancing Competition” held in 2003. SIBUL also won third place in the “Pamaskong Aliwan Festival” held in Manila last 2006 and grab the 2nd place award in Float Category in Aliwan Fiesta 2007. By envisioning a unified country, SIBUL help children from different orphanages in Bulacan by doing charity works and encourage those young ones to appreciate the country’s own culture by teaching them various folkdances. Every December, the group organize “Ka-Sibul: Gib Lab on Krismas Dey”, a Christmas gift giving project for the children in some poor communities of Bulacan. When SIBUL was recognized by the Office of the President through the National Youth Commission as one of the youth-serving organizations in the country, they always take part in many youth programs hosted by the commission like TAYO, ASEAN TAYO, SSEAYP and many others Last June 26-July 04, 2009, SIBUL is the official representative of the Philippines to the 2nd Arsena International Folklore Festival held at Jakarta, Indonesia. This Indonesian tour made a history by making the group as the First Bulacan-based Cultural Group to join an international Festival outside the Philippines. It is with these activities that SIBUL earned the respect and support of both the government and private sectors. But more significantly, SIBUL has influenced a resurrected enthusiasm for what has belonged to us and our ancestors, it has resurrected the people with its roots and it has achieved these with so much pride. Once again, we feel whole and proud to be Filipinos. SIBUL was awarded the following distinctions: 2004 Most Promising Cultural Dance Troupe in the Philippines by the National Consumer’s Award 2005 Gintong Kabataan Awardee for the Culture and Arts by the Provincial Government of Bulacan and 2005 Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO 3) in the Philippines of the National Youth Commission and the Office of Senator Francis “Kiko “ Pangilinan awarded at the Malacañang Palace last June 27, 2005.
