Dulaang Sipat Lawin (DSL) is the resident theatre group of the Philippine High School for the Arts - the first and premiere art school of the country. It was established in 1977 in the picturesque Mount Makiling in the Province of Laguna (about 1.5 hours’ drive from the capital, Manila). The theatre group’s name depicts the mountain’s freely roaming hawks whose broad range of sight reflects the company’s vision of aesthetics, awareness, development, and social engagement that leads to a fuller sense of artistic creativity, freedom, and responsibility. Dulaang Sipat Lawin’s repertoire, which includes original Filipino works, adaptations of classics, and devised performances, have been performed in local and international theatre festivals. The students, who come from different parts of the Philippines, are trained in Acting, Directing, Improvisation, Stage-Production Management and Theatre Theories in Junior High. In furthering their studies, they undergo introductory courses in Research in the Arts, such as Dramaturgy, Performance Studies, Playwriting, Machinating, and Work Immersion in their Senior High School years.
